On January 15, 2015 the College of Education at Georgia State University honored First Lady Sandra Deal and her efforts toward improving literacy education in Georgia with a visit to the college’s Lanette L. Suttles Child Development Center pre-kindergarten class. Mrs. Deal’s visit was also in celebration of Georgia State University’s Centennial. The college donated books to the center in Mrs. Deal’s honor. She also read the book Who I’d Like To Be to the class.
After a tour of the center, a luncheon was also held to recognize Mrs. Deal and the college’s work and researchers in the area of literacy education. Two additional book donations were presented to a public school library (Mary Lin Elementary School) and public library (North Hall Community and Technology Center in Hall County) chosen by Mrs. Deal.
