The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign Kick-off, featuring First Lady Sandra Deal, was held November 13, 2012 at four downtown locations. The response to GSU’s involvement was strong and efforts that day generated over $250.00 in pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. It was the strongest day in the campaign for kettles in the downtown area. Click here for more information and to view pictures from the kick-off.
For 120 years, the Salvation Army has started the Christmas Season with Red Kettles and Bell Ringers. It is not only a tradition but an absolute necessity. In the metro Atlanta area, the income generated through kettles is approximately 10% of our annual operating budget. The final tally for the 2012 Red Kettle campaign was over $1.9 million dollars and will be used throughout the metro Atlanta community to help those in desperate need not just during the holidays but throughout the year.
Examples of service include provision of housing through our Red Shield Services, emergency assistance for rent and utilities through our Financial Emergency Assistance offices, hunger relief through our food pantries and youth programs administered through Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs.
