What will members be asked to do?
Members are encouraged to become involved in supporting higher education in their home communities. For example, on occasion, we might ask members to write or call their local legislators and let them know of Georgia State’s position on a particular issue. Many times, communication with legislators is to simply thank them for their support.
Will members ever need to travel to the Georgia State University campus?
A special reception is held each fall to recognize and thank all AlumNet members for their willingness to serve. This is a time for university administrators and AlumNet members to visit, discuss relevant issues and tour new areas of the Georgia State University campus.
What if I’m not involved in politics?
Even if you’re not politically involved, you are an important member of a voting constituency. Legislators respect the opinions of their voting constituency. In addition, they recognize the many benefits of having an excellent higher education system. After all, education has a great impact on Georgia’s economic health.
What if I don’t know my state legislators?
Your vote is needed. As a taxpayer you have a vested interest in policymaking and legislative decisions, regardless of your familiarity with the General Assembly. We update members on vital issues and provide the addresses and phone numbers of Georgia’s key legislators.
What else should I know about AlumNet?
AlumNet is sponsored by the Alumni Association and made up of alumni and advocates of Georgia State University. Members come from all across the state to ensure Georgia State’s representation in key legislative districts.
